Material and Process Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Material and Process Engineer specializing in composite materials for aircraft applications. The role involves material qualification, process validation, first-part qualification, and the application of AI/ML techniques to advance composite material technologies. The candidate will support production readiness and ensure compliance with aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform qualification of composite raw materials in accordance with aerospace standards
- Drive AI / ML applications within the composite materials domain for analysis, optimization, and monitoring
- Lead First Article / First Part Qualification (FPQ) of composite parts to ensure production readiness within defined timelines
- Develop deep understanding of thermoset, thermoplastic, and core materials used in aerospace composites
- Evaluate and support various composite manufacturing technologies (layup, curing, bonding, etc.)
- Collaborate with production, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure smooth transition from qualification to production
- Monitor material behavior, process parameters, and performance using data-driven approaches
- Ensure compliance with ASTM and aerospace material/process standards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in composite materials and manufacturing processes
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of composite materials and aerospace manufacturing processes
- Experience with resins, adhesives, and core materials
- Familiarity with ASTM standards and aerospace qualification requirements
- Data analysis and monitoring skills for material and process performance
- Exposure to Python for data analysis, automation, or AI/ML applications
- Understanding of supply chain considerations for composite materials
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/ML, automation, or advanced data analytics in materials engineering
- Knowledge of HPLC or similar material characterization techniques
- Prior experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments
