Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Linux Support Engineer with strong hands-on experience in managing and troubleshooting Linux-based systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise across multiple Linux distributions, system administration, performance optimization, and core infrastructure services.


Key Responsibilities

Linux System Administration

  • Manage and support multiple Linux distributions, including:
    • Server provisioning
    • OS patching and system updates
    • Performance tuning and optimization
  • Perform Linux kernel tuning, memory upgrades, CRON job management, and system-level optimizations.
  • Diagnose and resolve system defects, performance bottlenecks, and service disruptions.

Service Configuration & Infrastructure Support

  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot core services such as:
    • Apache, FTP, and network services
    • Email protocols and Syslog
    • Monitoring tools like Nagios
  • Install and manage SSL certificates on:
    • Apache
    • Nginx
    • Tomcat
  • Configure and maintain storage technologies including:
    • LVM
    • NFS
    • SAMBA

Automation & Package Management

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell scripting.
  • Manage software packages and updates using:
    • yum
    • rpm
  • Handle version control using Git and SVN.

Database & Performance Support

  • Provide basic database administration support for:
    • MySQL
    • PostgreSQL
  • Perform log analysis and system monitoring to identify and resolve issues proactively.

Ticketing & Service Request Management

  • Log, track, and update incidents and service requests using IT ticketing tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Assign priorities and ensure timely resolution in line with defined SLAs.
  • Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams or OEM vendors when required.
  • Maintain clear documentation of troubleshooting steps and final resolutions.

Customer Support & Communication

  • Deliver prompt, courteous, and effective technical support to employees.
  • Communicate issues, progress updates, and resolutions clearly and professionally.
  • Maintain a strong customer-first mindset in all interactions.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Linux operating systems
    • System internals
    • Troubleshooting methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • System monitoring
    • Log analysis
    • Service management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured incident-handling approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • Experience or certifications in Windows-based systems, including:
    • Active Directory
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Radius Authentication
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts.
  • Exposure to enterprise IT infrastructure environments is an added advantage.
